Description Technical Specs

This 1997 design was the very first full auto coil fired knife of USA design to ever cost less filling up your SUV. Which is to say prior to about 1997 you were limited to Italian Stilettos if you wanted to buy yourself a new auto knife for under $50. This was due entirely to the fact that the knives being made with coil fired action prior to The Knife Tech auto were made with billet aluminum fed to computer controlled milling machines. Also note that in the billet/machine process of knife construction the blades are also laser cut and the production numbers range from 500 at the low (for the entire run) or 6000 at the very top. Interestingly enough, the basic materials for the latter process (alloy and steel) would cost you about the same give or take $5 or $10 whether your knife said Microtech on it and cost you $350 or Knife Tech and cost you $35. So how did they do it? Knife Tech knives were engineered to be built at 50,000 knives and distributed to the world market and they were simply built in the way that just about every knife ever made was built. Namely not by an engineer using 10 million dollars in computer controlled milling machines. They were fashioned instead using molds for the handles (same alloys as you find in the expensive stuff) and the blades are cut using a fine blanking process on the very inexpensive autos $15-20 or hydra cut on models like the Knife Tech. And just about all of the coil fired auto knives to follow since the very first Knife Tech delivery back in 1997 (in the under $50 cost category) were made just like this one using molds for the handles and fine blanked or hydra cut blades with a high numbered production to reduce the cost per knife against the tooling up expense. So if you have ever wondered how it is that some are $200 and others are $20 - but they look kind of the same - there it is! And it all started with the Knife Tech here. Which also ranks top 10 with it's extra detail including black finished hardware (allen key type) for this type of construction with a top quality fit & finish and super fast blade action we know you'll appreciate!
